Description

The music Tuition Program from ELC to Year 12 is a structured program to help students develop a love of music in performing, playing and singing. Instrumental and vocal Tuition Programs are taught by specialist teachers who are experts in their fields.

Students may elect to learn an instrument from the brass, percussion, orchestral string or woodwind families, piano, fretted strings including guitar, mandolin and electric bass, and classical or contemporary voice. Students may also elect to study music theory or musicianship.Instrumental students are expected to commit to regular practice, and are encouraged to participate in school recitals and , where desred, formal external exams. All students are supported in taking music as a subject at VCE or IB and are able to discuss this option with relevant staff.

For some instruments, the number of places is limited. Advice as to which instrument might be suitable for a particular student is readily available from Music staff.

Students will enrol in either individual or group lessons (group lessons available until the end of Year 8) and will be placed in Carey’s co-curricular ensemble program as soon as they are able. The musical, social and cognitive benefits of ensemble music making are significant, and Carey staff support young musicians from their early years through to the highest level of performance.
