Treading the boards is one of the rights of passage for Year 5 and a major highlight!

The Year 5 Production process begins in Term 1, where the students embark on their dramatic journey with monologues. They meet with a professional playwright who sets the scene for the year ahead. With the topic in hand, the children research and write a monologue based on an influential Australian from the past.

Term two consists of drama workshops as the students prepare and perform their monologues, while the playwright takes their scripts and ideas, shaping them into a performance text. The playwright returns in Term 3, where the students workshop the ideas laid out in a drafted copy of the play. When the final scripted piece is complete, students audition, prepare and perform a fully staged dramatic performance in which they have overseen every part of the process. They have lived the piece from its concept to its final performance.
