Year 11 Outdoor Education Leadership
Description
This is the final chance to be involved in the Carey Outdoor Education program and gives students the opportunity to contribute their knowledge and skills back into the program, as well as to continue their journey of learning and growth.
Participation as a Year 11 leader is voluntary and students can apply to assist as a leader on a Year 5 or 6 Junior School program at Toonallook or a Year 8 program at Hattah/Kulkyne National Park. Application to attend a program does not guarantee a position as a leader.
Leadership in this context provides students to explore leadership in an applied context; allowing them to reflect on Carey’s values of Care, Respect and Growth. Students complete a self-reflection at the end of the week with Outdoor Education Staff and come away from the program with an assessed report that centres around the Carey Positive Learner Attributes. Assessment
Reports are written on students who assist as a leader on a Junior School or Year 8 program. The reports comprise a criteria-based checklist and a written comment based on the observation of all aspects of their participation throughout the program. These are largely focussed on Carey’s Positive Learner Attributes.
