Summer Activities

Summer Season Sport and Activity Options

Students in Firsts teams, Rowing and selected “A” cricket teams will participate in Term 4 and Term 1 as part of their summer commitment.

APS Sports

Badminton
Years 7-12, Girls and Boys

Mid-week training and Saturday competition against other APS/AGSV schools, held at various venues.

Cricket
Years 7-12, Girls and Boys

Mid-week training and Saturday competition against other APS/AGSV schools, held at various venues.

Matches are half-day or full-day depending on the age and level.

Girls will play in a year 7-12 girls only competition. In exceptional circumstances girls may be considered to play in boys teams.

Diving
Years 7-12, Girls and Boys

Mid-week training and Saturday competitions. Experienced divers compete in APS events on Saturdays, beginners attend training clinics at Carey Sport Complex, Bulleen.

Futsal (Indoor Soccer)
Years 9-12, Boys only

Mid-week training at Carey Bulleen and Saturday competitions against other APS schools.

Rowing
Years 9-12, Girls and Boys

Year 9: mid-week sessions include three on water and one land-based.

Years 10-12: mid-week sessions include three on water and two land-based.

Saturday commitments include training at the Carey boat shed or regattas at locations including the Yarra River, Ballarat, Carrum, Geelong, and Nagambie. Students must commit to every weekend during the season.

Note: Year 9 Rowing begins in Term 3 for Year 8 students. 

Swimming – Competitive

Years 7-12, Girls and Boys

Mid-week training at and Saturday competitions against other APS schools. Please note this is not a Learn to Swim program.

Softball
Years 7-12, Girls only

Mid-week training at and Saturday games against other APS/AGSV schools, held at various venues.

Table Tennis
Years 7-12, Girls and Boys

Mid-week training and Saturday competition against APS/AGSV schools, held at various venues.

Please note, you cannot choose Table Tennis in both Summer and Winter seasons.

Tennis
Years 7-12, Girls and Boys

Mid-week training and Saturday competition against APS/AGSV schools, held at various venues.

Touch Football

Years 7-12, Girls and Boys

Mid-week training and Saturday competition against other APS/AGSV schools, held at various venues.

Volleyball (APS and Internal)
Years 7-12, Girls and Boys

Mid-week training and Saturday competition against other APS/AGSV schools, held at various venues.

Note – only A and B teams will be entered into APS/AGSV competitions. Students who do not make A or B level will play in an internal Friday afternoon social competition.

 

Non-APS Activities

Basketball “3X3”

Years 10-12, Girls and Boys

Outdoor 3 on 3 format, training mid- week and internal competition on Friday after school based at the Carey Kew Campus.

Bike Fitness
Years 8-12, Girls and Boys

Students access Carey-owned Mountain bikes and helmets and train on Yarra bike trails around Bulleen.

Mid-week and Saturday mornings based at the Carey Sports Complex..

Dance Fitness

Years 7-9, Girls and Boys

Combination of Barre, Pilates, Yoga, Dance Cardio & Stretch, run by qualified external barre instructors. Mid Week and Saturday morning sessions.

First Aid
Years 8-12, Girls and Boys

Students learn First Aid to gain First Aid accreditation.

No mid-week commitment is required, students complete a 2-hour classroom session at the Kew Campus on Saturdays.

Please note, you cannot choose Fitness Club in both Summer and Winter seasons.

Fitness Club
Years 11-12, Girls and Boys

Structured fitness programs incorporating strength, stability and cardio based activities, written and coached by qualified Strength and Conditioning staff.

Mid-week session and Saturday morning session in the Carey gym at Kew campus.

Please note, you cannot choose Fitness Club in both Summer and Winter seasons.

Kayaking

Years 7-12, Girls and Boys

Open to beginners and experienced paddlers. Mid-week training and Saturday mornings at the Fairfield boathouse. 

Students have opportunities to enter competitions including the Victorian State Championships.

Park Run

Years 7-12, Girls and Boys

Mid-week running training and Saturday Park Run participation at various sites around Melbourne.

Pilates

Years 11-12, Girls and Boys

Mat-based Pilates at Carey Kew with visits to external reformer studios throughout the season

Mid-week and Saturday mornings.

Swimming – Learn To Swim (Beginners)
Years 7-12, Girls and Boys

Lessons for students wishing to learn how to swim.

Mid-week and Saturday morning lessons at Carey Bulleen.

Senior School Musical

Years 10-12, Girls and Boys

The Senior School Musical auditions in Term 4 and continues rehearsals throughout term 4 and the holiday period, culminating in a season shows at the end of term 1. Yr 11/12 actors can count this as 2 cocurricular programs. Those in the backstage crew or a Yr 10 actor can count it as one program.  All students can continue to include additional summer options if that is their preference.
