Chinese

Common Unit

Prerequisite

Year 7 Chinese or equivalent.

All students who can communicate fluently orally and in written Chinese are required to study Indonesian or French in Middle School. In Senior School they can pursue the study of Chinese (First or Second Language classes, depending on the student’s background) or continue with their Middle School Language. It is important that background information regarding students’ experience and proficiency in Chinese is provided during the subject selection process.

Unit Description

Students study aspects of Chinese language and culture relevant to a range of topics. Students:

  • expand their reading and writing of Chinese characters so that they are able to communicate in written Chinese;
  • use spoken Chinese in a variety of situations to discuss where people live and how they get to work, to talk about jobs, school uniform and daily routine;
  • develop skills through a wide range of activities including role play, games, videos, writing and reading tasks;
  • complete a variety of tasks including using Chinese word processing software to write in Chinese characters.
