Prep Outdoor Education
Common Unit
Course Description
Students in prep will participate in a local excursion with Outdoor Education staff to Darebin Parklands. The Prep program is the first of many Outdoor Education programs that students will take part in throughout their time at Carey and is an opportunity to introduce our younger students to the concept of nature play and exploration.
The excursion includes several activities including a nature walk, story time, art activities, outdoor free-play and a hands-on activity session with education officers from the Darebin Creek Management Committee. The day will be organised and facilitated by experienced Outdoor Educators and aims to engage students with the concept of ‘Nature in my own backyard’ through exploration of natural environments within suburban Melbourne.
The program provides an opportunity for students to experience an environment vastly different to the manicured, landscaped play spaces in the school grounds. Facilitated outdoor play and exploration opportunities are critical to developing connections with, and care for nature.
