Year 10 students are offered a range of core and elective subject combinations which aim to provide them with a variety of studies with which to pursue courses in Years 11 and 12 in either the IB Diploma or VCE.
Students must also carefully examine their Mathematics and Science choices to ensure that they are able to meet the requirements of further studies in both certificates offered by the School and tertiary prerequisites.
Core studies in Year 10 take up nine of the student's overall program of 14 units. Core studies comprise two units of study in English, one Humanities unit, two units of study in Mathematics, one unit of Religious Education, one unit of Physical Education and two units of Year 10 Science (Applied Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics). Students must study at least two units of Year 10 Science with the option of studying one additional Science Unit. Their first two units must be selected from one of the four core units (Applied Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics). If they elect to choose a third unit of science, they may choose from Applied Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Psychology.
Students then select a combination of Semester Electives (one unit), Year-Long Electives (two units) and/or VCE acceleration subject (eligibility criteria apply and these studies constitute two units).
