VCE Acceleration at Year 10
Description
One aspect of students’ academic journey is preparing for the International Baccalaureate (IB) or the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) in Years 11 and 12. To support either pathway, the Year 10 program provides opportunities for students to complete VCE Units 1 and 2 a year earlier through a process known as acceleration.
At Carey, acceleration supports personalised learning by recognising that some students are ready for greater academic challenge and extension. Undertaking a VCE subject earlier than the typical pathway allows these students to engage with more advanced content and develop the skills required for success in senior secondary study.
Acceleration is a significant educational decision that requires careful consideration by students, families and the School. It is intended to provide an appropriate level of challenge for students who demonstrate both the readiness and capacity to thrive in a more advanced course of study.
A variety of VCE Units 1 and 2 subjects are available to choose within the Year 10 program, and students are encouraged to consider these options carefully, taking into account their areas of interest and strength.
