Year 7 Languages

Advanced Chinese

Languages Unit

Prerequisite

Students must have Chinese as a home language or have had extensive prior language learning. (bilingual schools, in country study)

Please note:

  • Placement in the Year 7 Advanced Chinese class does not require students to meet the VCAA criteria for Second Language Advanced study. (All students who select Advanced Chinese will be asked to sit a written and spoken placement test). Subject to student numbers, Year 7 Advanced Chinese students and Year 7 Chinese students may be placed in a combined class. Students will continue to have differentiated and supported pathways.

All students who have developed oral proficiency due to having Chinese as a home language are able to select Advanced Chinese. In Senior School they can continue their study of Chinese (First, Second Language Advanced or Second Language level, depending on the student’s language and educational background). It is important that background information regarding students’ experience and proficiency in Chinese is provided during the subject selection process.
