Year Level Description
In Year 6 the following units are covered:
- Throw, catch, strike and field, with a focus on softball and cricket
- Pass, catch, dribble and score in court-based invasion games with a focus on netball, basketball, volleyball and handball
- Kick, pass, dribble, strike and score in field-based invasion games with a focus on soccer, football and hockey
- Individual sports performance - Tennis, Athletics and Swimming
- Fitness, thinking and movement
Achievement Standard
By the end of the year students are expected to:
- understand and describe the reasons for physical activity;
- co-operate in a team or group situation and work together to improve performance;
- refine and expand their range of skills and perform them with increasing precision, skill and accuracy;
- effectively and efficiently receive, move with and propel an object with the correct technique;
- evaluate the performance of and give constructive feedback to peers;
- describe and analyse the various roles required in competitive sports;
- consolidate their swimming and safety skills in the water;
- perform survival techniques of sculling, treading water, floating and survival strokes while clothed;
- undertake a leadership role in structured game play e.g. coach, captain, umpire;
- consolidate attacking and defending techniques when playing competitive games and explain the techniques to students at a Year 4 level, demonstrating a deep understanding of their uses.
