Year 7 Music

Music Makers

Common Unit

Unit Description

The Year 7 Classroom Music Program is all about getting everyone involved in music in a hands-on, energetic, and genuinely enjoyable way. No matter their experience, students will jump straight into making music. They’ll play instruments, experiment with composing, listen with purpose, and collaborate with others to recreate well-known pieces and create music of their own. This is an opportunity for students to find themselves in music — to discover what they enjoy, what they're good at, and what they might want to explore further.

Students don’t need to have done music before. If they’re completely new, they will be guided step by step as they build real skills and confidence. If students already play an instrument or sing, they’ll have opportunities to extend themselves, take on challenges, and deepen their understanding. Everyone works at their level, and everyone grows.

Most importantly, this is about connection — connecting with music, connecting with new skills, and connecting with each other. By the end of the year, students won’t just have learned about music… they’ll have experienced the joy of making it together.
