Theatre
Elective Unit
Unit Description
In this year-long Arts elective subject, students explore theatre styles and develop an understanding of how they can use the conventions of these styles to interpret scripts. The unit focuses on creating theatre and students will develop a rich understanding of how, as theatre makers, they can communicate meaning to an audience.
In Year 9 Theatre students will:
- Learn about, and experiment with, a range of contemporary theatrical styles, developing an understanding of the production process. Explore the world of musical theatre by rehearsing and performing a mini musical for friends and family. They will develop skills in acting, singing and dance to communicate character and story, while also experiencing behind-the-scenes production roles such as stage management, sound and lighting.
- Learn how to design for theatre, using their understanding of texts to imaginatively create costume or set designs.
- Watch and analyse professional theatre productions
