Elective Unit
Unit Description
Are you ready to make the world a better place?
This elective invites students to explore the causes, impacts, and responses to natural disasters affecting Northern Queensland, particularly around Mission Beach, Mount Zero, Magnetic Island, the Daintree Rainforest, and the surrounding coral reefs.
Students will examine cyclones, flooding, and coral bleaching from scientific, social, and environmental perspectives. Through hands-on inquiry and real-world application, students will understand the balance between natural systems and human activities and develop sustainable responses to these challenges. Conduct research and source data to understand and explore your problem and communicate this to an audience, convincing them of the importance of your idea
- Engage in a range of activities designed to help you develop empathy and understanding of the problems and its impact on humans
- Work collaboratively using the design process to generate sustainable responses, prototype and critique possibilities
- share your idea with others and seek feedback
