Mathematics Consolidation
Elective Unit
Prerequisites
Mathematics Consolidation is only available to students who are consistently achieving grades below C in their Mainstream Mathematics class. Selection for this unit is based on teacher recommendation after consultation with parents and approval by the Leader of Learning - Mathematics and Computing.
Students studying Foundation are not able to select this elective.
Unit Description
This support unit is designed to complement the core Mathematics course and to consolidate the skills developed there. Students are able to study Mathematics Consolidation during Semester 1 or Semester 2 or both.
The course enables students to develop their mathematical understanding and gain confidence in their mathematical skills. Students complete activities that demonstrate the concepts covered in Year 8 Mathematics and the course is arranged so that students have time to complete more exercises on the content being studied in core Mathematics. Revision of work covered in the Year 7 course is undertaken as necessary. Emphasis on basic number skills helps students to progress more quickly and smoothly through their mathematical exercises. Computer software is used to enhance learning and assist student progress.
