Elective Unit
Unit Description
This unit challenges the student to examine an environment and create a product to enhance it. This includes following a sequence of design, which allows the student to communicate and plan ideas, estimate quantities and costs and analyse a range of timbers.
Essential Questions
- What is the role of the design process?
- What is the relationship between designer and client?
- How do the characteristics and properties of wood influence my design?
- Why do we evaluate our production work on completion?
Assessment
- Investigating and Designing: the production of a portfolio, which plans the manufacture of a product.
- Production: a finished product that applies joinery, fixtures and finishes.
- Analysing and Evaluating: a synopsis of initial ideas against a final outcome.
