VCE External Options

Applications

In general, there are three options for students to study VCE subjects not offered at Carey – Virtual Schools Victoria, language schools or other providers.

Students wishing to undertake an external VCE subject must make an appointment with the VCE Co-ordinator to discuss the requirements for enrolment. The student then enrols with the second provider through Carey, as their home school.

An external subject counts towards the student's VCE program and a modified timetable load can be negotiated. Additional costs may be associated with an external program.

Distance Education

Virtual Schools Victoria (VSV)

Distance Education is one option for the study of subjects not offered at Carey. Although not the ideal way to undertake VCE studies, course work is sent to students at Carey via the VCE Co-ordinator. Students are required to stay in contact with their teacher at the VSV and ensure that all work requirements are completed and submitted on time. Supervised outcomes and SACs are undertaken at Carey throughout the year.

Visit VSV for further information.

Language Schools

Students wishing to undertake a VCE language course that is not offered at Carey, may be able to do so either at one of the language schools in the Melbourne metropolitan area or through the Victorian School of Languages (VSL).

Visit VSL for further information.

Other Providers

Students may be able to undertake subjects, such as Dance, by enrolling with an external provider.

Fees

Studying a course external to Carey may incur an additional charge.
