Description

Vocational Education and Training (VET) is a wonderful opportunity for students to develop job specific skills needed to progress their post school ambition. A VET study normally involves a two-year training program during which the students complete a nationally recognised vocational qualification (e.g. Certificate II in Building and Construction, Certificate III Beauty Services), in addition to their other VCE studies.

VET studies can contribute to the calculation of a student's ATAR score as part of the primary four or as a fifth or sixth study.

The programs are delivered by a range of external providers at a number of venues across Melbourne and students travel independently to and from their VET course. Classes are usually held on Wednesday afternoon and attendance may mean students miss one or more timetabled lessons at Carey. Students need to be responsible for catching up on any missed work.

A list of VCE VET Courses is available here.

Application

Students interested in VET subjects should register their interest as part of the online subject selection process. Mrs Siva will contact interested students via email to assist them in making a formal application to the training organisation of their choice. VET places are in high demand and external providers may give preference to those students who apply first so timely applications are essential.

All interested students should discuss VET options with their Careers Practitioner to ensure it is aligned with their career aspirations.

Fees

VET fees are charged in addition to the normal course load at Carey. Costs vary according to the VET program selected but all VET courses are subsidised by Carey. Parents will be charged the full fee for VET courses and reimbursed upon a students successful completion of the course. Students who do not complete their VET studies, or withdraw mid-year, will not receive the reimbursement.
