Year-Long Elective Unit
Prerequisites
There are no formal prerequisites for this course. An interest in business operations and developing practical workplace skills is beneficial.
Students can enter this subject mid-year and receive VCE unit credit for their studies but may not receive the full qualification due to late enrolment. A statement of attainment will be issued with the competencies acquired. Students must complete both Year 1 and Year 2 of this study to receive the Certificate III qualification.
Course Description
The VET Business program provides students with nationally recognised training while still at school. In Year 11, students work towards completing units from the Certificate III in Business, gaining hands-on experience in a range of business practices. The course blends theory with practical application, helping students build foundational skills required in any professional workplace. In Year 11, students complete units from the BSB20120 Certificate II in Workplace Skills, an entry-level qualification designed to enhance employment prospects in administrative and customer service roles. Students will also begin selected units from the BSB30120 Certificate III in Business. The course blends theory with hands-on application, building core business knowledge within the Australian context.

Assessment
Assessment includes a combination of:
- Competency-based assessments (practical tasks, projects, portfolios, oral tasks)
- School-assessed coursework (SACs)
- Mid-year and end of year Exam
Note: Year 2 of this program is a scored VCE study and includes a VCE VET examination as part of the Unit 3–4 sequence.
Students wishing to receive an ATAR contribution for VCE/VET Business must undertake scored assessment in the Unit 3-4 sequence. This study score can contribute directly to the ATAR, either as one of the student's best four studies (the primary four) or as a fifth or sixth study increment.
