VCE Business Studies

VET Business Year 2

Year-Long Elective Unit

Prerequisites

Completion of VET Business – Year 11 (or equivalent units from Certificate II/III) is strongly recommended.

Students who enter this subject without having completed Year 1 of the study will not receive the full qualification due to late enrolment. Students must complete both Year 1 and Year 2 of this study to receive the Certificate III qualification. Students will still be eligible for a Unit 3 and 4 VCE sequence and a study score if they undertake Year 2 only.

Course Description

In Year 2, students complete the BSB30120 Certificate III in Business, a nationally recognised qualification that develops a broad set of business skills applicable across a variety of work environments. The course focuses on building independence, judgement, and theoretical knowledge necessary for workplace success. Students complete a scored VCE VET Unit 3–4 sequence, which contributes to their ATAR.

Students will complete the following competencies as part of this program

BSBPEF301 – Organise personal work priorities

BSBOPS304 – Deliver and monitor a service to customers

BSBINS302 – Organise workplace information

BSBXCM301 – Engage in workplace communication

BSBOPS305 – Process customer complaints

BSBTEC301 – Design and produce business documents

Assessment

Assessment includes a combination of:

  • Competency-based assessments (practical tasks, projects, portfolios, oral tasks)
  • School-assessed coursework (SACs)
  • VCE VET examination for Unit 3–4 sequence

Students wishing to receive an ATAR contribution for VCE/VET Business must undertake scored assessment in the Unit 3-4 sequence. This study score can contribute directly to the ATAR, either as one of the student's best four studies (the primary four) or as a fifth or sixth study increment.

The scored assessment consists of three coursework tasks (66% of the overall study score), and an end-of-year examination (34% of the overall study score).

The scored Unit 3–4 sequence of the VCE VET Sport and Recreation program must be delivered and assessed in a single enrolment year.

Overall Final Assessment

End of year Examination – 1.5 hours.
