Unit Description

Students continue their Chinese SLA pathways. Year 8 Chinese Advanced is offered to students who would like to continue to develop their language proficiency although they already have Chinese language learning (Bilingual schools, in country study, EAL students). In Senior School they can continue their study of Chinese (First Language or Second Language Advanced level, depending on the student’s language and educational background, and if continuing into VCE, VCAA criteria). It is important that background information regarding students’ experience and proficiency in Chinese is provided during the subject selection process.

The course will be more focused in the character writing, reading and writing skills. It will also broaden their culture understanding about traditional and contemporary China.

In this unit students:

  • deepen their understanding of cultural elements, especially about friendship, school subjects and campus, sports and Martial Arts, transportation and travel in China;
  • deepen their understanding of Chinese characters and learn to read and write short Chinese essays about their personal world;
  • prepare oral presentations and discussions;
  • develop skills through a wide range of activities including language games, discussions, presentations, videos, writing tasks and computer-assisted tasks.
