Elective Unit
Unit Description
In this unit, an introductory project in wood allows students to become familiar with correct and safe workshop practice. Once accustomed to workshop methodology, students follow a design process where a design brief challenges them to design and plan a product for manufacture.

- What is the role of the design process?
- How do characteristics and properties of various woods influence my design?
- How do I communicate my ideas in Product Design and Technology?
- Why do we evaluate our production work on completion?
Assessment
- Investigating and Designing: Understanding hand tools, a design brief, the communication of ideas and production planning.
- Production: The completion of one product based on the requirements outlined in a design brief.
- Analysing and Evaluating: A presentation of outcomes.
