Sustainable Design

Elective Unit

Unit Description

Sustainable Design embraces the use of scientific research and inquiry into the causes and consequences of environmental issues with the development of technology rich, aesthetically appropriate solutions. Students will use the Design Thinking Framework to follow a project through to the development of a sustainable, innovative and creative prototyped solution. Students will pursue research to understand the issue and will work with professionals to solve the associated design dilemmas. Students will plan and communicate their solutions, learn how to manage the production process, build prototypes and reflect on the entire project.

  1. Scientific research and design brief report
  2. Design Thinking Ideation portfolio of possible solutions
  3. Prototypes - Innovation, Skill and Aesthetic development
  4. Final Project and presentation
  5. Reflection journal based on collaboration with industry professional
