Restrictions on Course Selection
Students should be aware that there are certain restrictions on the choice of Mathematics courses, including:
- Specialist Mathematics 1 and 2 may not be taken without Mathematical Methods Units 1 and 2.
- Students studying Mathematical Methods Units 3 and 4 must have successfully completed Mathematical Methods Units 1 and 2.
- Students intending to study Specialist Mathematics in Year 12 must also have completed or be concurrently studying Mathematical Methods Units 3 and 4 and are strongly encouraged to have completed Specialist Mathematics Units 1 and 2. If they have not completed Specialist Mathematics Units 1 and 2 then they must be prepared to complete intensive work independently over the summer break between Year 11 and 12.
Students can only include up to two of the following Unit 3 and 4 sequences in their primary four subjects towards their ATAR Score: Foundation Mathematics, General Mathematics, Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics. The third or University Extension Mathematics, contributes an increment to the ATAR Score. University Extension only counts as a sixth subject and no more than three of the four possible Mathematics courses are included in the ATAR Score.
