About the Learning Area
At Junior School Kew, we use the Australian National Curriculum standards. This curriculum describes content and achievement standards that form the foundation of teaching and learning in English. The English curriculum is built around the three interrelated strands of language, literature and literacy. These three strands focus on developing the student’s knowledge, understanding and skills in listening, reading, viewing, speaking, writing and creating. Students work at varying levels of achievement across the curriculum, therefore, classroom teachers differentiate lessons accordingly. This ensures that the learning needs of all students are met. When teaching English we continually build on the concepts, skills and processes developed in earlier levels and revisit, strengthen and develop these as needed.
