Common Unit
Prerequisite
Year 8 Chinese or equivalent.
Students continue their Chinese SL and or Chinese SLA pathways. All students who can communicate fluently orally and in written Chinese are required to study Indonesian or French in Middle School. In Senior School they can pursue the study of Chinese (First or Second Language Advanced classes, depending on the student’s background) or continue with their Middle School Language. It is important that background information regarding students’ experience and proficiency in Chinese is provided during the subject selection process.
Unit Description
Students study aspects of Chinese culture relevant to a range of topics. Students:
- expand their reading and writing of Chinese characters so that they are able to continue writing short descriptive passages by using text types in Chinese;
- expand on sentences by using several conjunctions;
- use spoken Chinese in a variety of situations to discuss pets, weather, illness, housing and furniture and food;
- further develop skills through a wide range of activities including role play, games, online quizzes, listening, reading and writing tasks;
- complete a variety of tasks including using Chinese word processing software to write in Chinese and using PowerPoint to create topic-related slides.
