About the Learning Area
The Health and Physical Education Learning Area aims to create a safe environment within a variety of contexts in which students develop the knowledge, understanding and skills needed in order to enhance their own and others’ health and wellbeing.
Physical Education offers experiences that enrich and develop our students through the expression of human movement in all its varied forms and allied aspects of Health Education. Physical Education seeks to educate the whole student.
The Physical Education program at Carey presents a range of activities that enhances the attributes of a positive learner, while extending individual levels of fitness and skill. In addition, the program provides opportunities for spontaneity, freedom and enjoyment, as well as offering opportunities to respond to challenge and be involved in the natural environment.
As an intrinsic part of the program students are required to demonstrate knowledge which assists them to make informed decisions about and develop sound attitudes towards their lifelong personal and community health.
