About the Learning Area

Integrated and Immersive Learning Summary

Empowering students to become aware, have a voice and create positive change.

At Carey, we pride ourselves on thinking and acting altruistically by serving others. But we can’t serve others unless we look after ourselves. The integrated and immersive programs provide the opportunities to do both by encompassing a ‘head, heart and hands’ approach to learning.

Students can

  • investigate and understand the world beyond their immediate environment.
  • recognise their own perspectives and appreciate other perspectives thoughtfully and respectfully.
  • develop multiple ways to communicate their ideas.
  • build a toolbox of ways to take positive and responsible actions.

The Integrated and Immersive Learning Programs provide an environment where students are engaged in creative and critical thinking and are encouraged to become positive agents of change whilst thriving in a rapidly evolving and interdependent world. The learning that takes place is real and relevant, where students can make sense of their learning whilst participating in experiential activities that are purposeful, interactive, and engaging.

Learning from the past, acting in the now (present) to make a difference in the future, the Integrated and Immersive Learning Programs ask students to;

THINK- about what they already know. Drawing on their current understandings.

QUESTION- their current understanding and knowledge. Cultivating an open-minded approach.

WONDER- about the possibilities. Inspiring creative thinking.

ACT- to make a difference.   Encouraging positive action – no matter how small.

REFLECT- on how to use the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values in shaping their future.

TRANFORM/CONNECT- their learning to be able to apply it to different contexts- Sense making.

THINK again………

The Immersive Learning Program foster deep, powerful and transformative learning which helps students to develop a strong sense of themselves, and an understanding of others with a vision for how they can impact the world. Students to make connections to the real world through ‘impact experiences’ which are carefully designed for engagement and experimentation. With the Carey Positive Learner Attributes at the core and underpinning the way that students learn throughout their involvement in each program.

In the Middle School students participate in 3 x 3 weeklong programs. 9 weeks of immersive Learning Experiences thoughout their journey in the Middle School
